Dare to Dream

“A single dream is more powerful than a thousand realities.”J.R.R. Tolkien

What is it that keeps us from reaching for our dreams. Is the road to long? Is the goal impossible? Is the security of our “limitations” so reassuring that we fear to pursue the extraordinary. This new painting is a metaphor. It represents, for me, the greatest obstacle to the the splendid adventure that awaits us if we could just release ourselves to exhilaration of uncertainty and let go of our ankles. It is hard to walk that way.

As Tolkien said, “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

  3. Susie Wallace says:

I’ve never though about being secure in my limitations. It is true! Venturing into the unknown, the “not me”, can be scary. But creativity is about taking risks. Your painting is amazing and thought provoking. Thank you for sharing it.

    • I believe our limitations are just one more example of how powerful we create through our thoughts. Instead of focusing on what we can’t do, what if did as jedi master Yoda proscribes, ” No try, only do”… I mean, of course it was impossible for Luke Skywalker to levitate his x wing fighter out of the swamp using “the Force”, but that is what he believed, That didn’t stop Yoda though:)

  4. Kathleen Pendleton says:

Sorry I haven’t been following you online…amazing painting. Love reading your thoughts…interesting I have that Yoda quote on my desk with a Yoda figure;)
I need a bigger home with more wall space so I can buy more of your beautiful paintings! Love, Kath
